POSTPONED: A Flock Of Seagulls

A Flock Of Seagulls may well be known for their bizarrely teased haircuts as much as their hit single ‘I Ran’. A Flock of Seagulls were one of prime movers in the 80’s new wave era. Growing out of the synth-heavy and ruthlessly stylish new romantic movement. Hairdresser Mike Score (lead vocals, keyboards) formed A Flock of Seagulls with his brother Ali (drums) and fellow hairdresser Frank Maudsley (bass) in 1980, adding guitarist Paul Reynolds several months later. The group released its debut EP on Bill Nelsons Cocteau Records early in 1981, and while the record failed to chart, its lead track, ‘Telecommunication,’ became an underground hit in Euro-disco and new wave clubs. The group had a string of international hit singles including "I Ran (So Far Away)" "Space Age Love Song", "Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)", and "The More You Live, the More You Love". Their video for "I Ran (So Far Away)" received airplay on MTV during the Second British Invasion. The band won a Grammy Award in 1983 for their instrumental "D.N.A.". In 2018 the members of the original lineup came together to record an album with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra entitled Ascension. ...

Duke Ellington Orchestra

Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington born April 29, 1899 is regarded as one of the most prolific American composers of the Twentieth century. His career spanned more than 50 years and included leading his orchestra, composing an inexhaustible songbook, scoring for movies, composing stage musicals, and world tours. Duke Ellington called his music “American Music” rather than jazz and liked to describe those who impressed him as “beyond category.” He remains one of the most influential figures in jazz, if not in all American music, and is widely considered as one of the Twentieth century’s best known African American personalities. As both a composer and a band leader, Duke Ellington influenced millions of people both around the world and at home. He gave American music its own sound for the first time. In his fifty year career, he played over 20,000 performances in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East as well as Asia. Ellington led his band from 1923 until his death on May 24, 1974 at the age of 75. At this point, his son Mercer Ellington took leadership of the band. Mercer was an accomplished trumpet player and composer who wrote many songs for his father’s orchestra including the standard “Things Ain’t What They Used to Be.” In the early 1980s he became the first conductor for a Broadway musical of his father’s music, Sophisticated Ladies. Under his direction he toured and recorded the Orchestra for the next 22 years until his own death in 1996. At this point the baton was passed to Mercer’s youngest son Paul Mercer Ellington who has been leading the orchestra and fearlessly preserving the music and legacy of the great Duke Ellington. The Duke Ellington Orchestra has been performing worldwide for the past 88 years under the guidance of three generations of the Ellington family and will continue to do so for many years to come. For the past three years while Paul is at New York University studying for his Masters degree in Film Production, Charlie Young the very talented alto sax player and arranger and professor at Howard University has been acting as the conductor touring the world leading the Famous Duke Ellington Orchestra. ...

"We are not stand-up comedians. Our show is not a passive, sit-back-and-watch experience. Most of the fun we have on stage comes from our inclusion of the audience – we get suggestions from them to begin each scene we perform, and in certain instances, bring them on-stage with us to add to our performance. This group of actors brings me right back to how I started out in comedy – maybe that's why we have so much fun doing it." – Jim Belushi With more than thirty years of experience and an alumnus of “Saturday Night Live” and Chicago’s famed Second City, JIM BELUSHI is now bringing to the stage an improvised comedy sketch show featuring members of the Board of Comedy. and. Last In Line, honoring what they knew would be Bain’s wish to keep the band moving, brought in renowned bassist Phil Soussan (ex-Ozzy Osbourne) and committed to sustained touring in support of the album, hitting festivals, headlining clubs, and sharing the stage with metal luminaries such as Saxon and Megadeth. ...

The Gilmour Project – Pink Floyd Tribute

The Gilmour Project was poised and ready to launch in April 2020, then the world hit the pause button. They re-emerge in 2021 pivoting to David Gilmour’s Pink Floyd repertoire. The songs that compel exploration & improvisation are mainly Gilmour’s and this rendition certainly does not dismiss the iconic contributions of all 5 historic musicians that comprise the Pink Floyd complement. The Gilmour Project incorporates musicians whose background is both prog(ressive) AND improvisational, and is the only band since Blue Floyd in 2000, endeavoring to take these songs ‘OUT,’ speaking in jazz protocol, without disregarding the cherished classic hooks, licks & musical phrases. Acclaimed musicians Jeff Pevar (lead guitar with CSN, David Crosby, Phil Lesh, Ray Charles) and Prairie Prince (co founder of The Tubes, & drums with Todd Rundgren, Jefferson Starship, Phil Lesh), Kasim Sulton (bass & vocals with Todd Rundgren’s Utopia, Meatloaf & Blue Oyster Cult), Mark Karan (guitar & vocals with Bob Weir, RatDog, The Other Ones), and Scott Guberman (keyboard & vocals with Phil Lesh), are more than psyched to bring you the initial installment of The Gilmour Project. ...
