THE EXTRAORDINARY CATERPILLAR – FREE SCREENING!
April 22 @ 7:00 pm

The city of Des Plaines is set to mark Earth Day with a special free screening of the documentary “The Extraordinary Caterpillar,” a film that reframes nature’s “tiniest super-heroes” as the backbone of the global food web. The documentary challenges the human-centric view of the planet, noting that while humans often deconstruct landscapes to suit their own needs, over 98% of the living world on Earth is actually smaller than a bee. The film highlights how these small creatures are essential to the natural systems that sustain the food web.
“The Extraordinary Caterpillar” follows a group of scientists and community activists to provide a rare look into the dazzling, often overlooked world of these insects. Key features of the program include: Exploration of how caterpillars serve as a primary food source for birds and other wildlife. Features commentary from renowned experts, including entomologist Doug Tallamy and naturalist Sam Jaffe of The Caterpillar Lab. High-definition macro cinematography that magnifies the complex lives of caterpillars.
